Pele is considered one of the greatest football players of all time. He was born in 1940 in Brazil. As a football player, Pele was famous for his powerful kicking and controlling the ball. David Robert Joseph Beckham was born in Leytonstones, London on May 2nd 1975. Keen on football from very early on, David won the bobby Chralton Soccer Skills Award when he was 11. Five years later, at the age of 16, he signed on as atrainee at Manchester United Football Club. The following year, he made his first appearance as a substitute but it was another three years before he started playing full-time in the Premier League.
He established himself as a quality player in the 1995/ 96 season and, in his midfield right position, the number 7 helped his team to win the FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea.
In 1996 he started playing for the English senior team and the year ended with him being voted Young Player of the Year.
It was no surprise that Beckham was picked up to play in the 1998 World Cup in France. A year later he was votes the second best player in the world after Rivaldo, the outstanding Barcelona and Brazil player.
In 2001, he was made captain of the England team, a responsibilty which brought out him the best in him. During the match, he led by example and showed that he could play with all his heart.

Charlie Chaplin was born in London in 1889. His parents were singers and they taught him to sing and dance. He appeared on stage at the age of eight. His father left his mother when Charlie and his half-brother were very young and he died when Charlie was ten years old. Then his mother entered a mental hospital and her two children had to go to an orphanage. Charlie had a very poor childhood, so he had to do various jobs before he became an actor. In 1913 he went to the United States. This was the beginning of his film career in Hollywood. He never returned to the stage.
He was both an actor and a film director. In 1914 he created his world-famous character: The Tramp. He immediately became an extremely popular star and acted in as many as seventy silent films.
Talking films or “talkies” appeared in the 1930’s, but Chaplin continued making silent films until 1940 when he made his first talking film, The Great Dictator. After the Second World War he made four more films. Chaplin lived in the United States for forty years but never became an American citizen. “I am a citizen of the world,” he declared. In 1953, because of political and personal problems, he had to leave the United States. He sold his house in Beverly Hills and then settled in Switzerland where he spent the rest of his life with his large family.
