Câu điều kiện loại 1

Trong câu điều kiện loại 1, sử dụng cấu trúc Unless để diễn tả một sự việc có thể xảy ra trong tương lai. Ta có thể sử dụng cả Unless và If not thay thế cho nhau.

Cấu trúc: Unless + S + V (simple present), S + will/can/shall + V

Câu điều kiện loại 2

Trong câu điều kiện loại 2, cấu trúc Unless dùng để diễn tả một tình huống không thể xảy ra trong hiện tại. Có thể sử dụng cả Unless và If not thay thế cho nhau.

Cấu trúc: Unless + S +Ved / V2 (simple past), S+ would + V

Câu điều kiện loại 3

Trong câu điều kiện loại 3, cấu trúc với Unless dùng để diễn tả tình huống đã không xảy ra trong quá khứ. Có thể sử dụng Unless thay thế cho If not và ngược lại

Cấu trúc: Unless + S + had + Ved/V3 , S + would + have + Ved/V3

Áp dụng

1. If the weather hadn't been nice, they wouldn't have played football.=> Unless the weather had been nice, they wouldn't have played football

2. If we hadn't gone to a good restaurant, we would have had a better dinner. => Unless we had gone to a good restaurant, we wouldn't have had a better dinner.

3. Unless An had learned more words, he wouldn't have written a good report. => If An hadn't earned more words, he wouldn't have written a good report.

4. If the boys hadn't taken the bus to school, they wouldn't have arrived on time. => Unless the boys had taken the bus to school, they wouldn't have arrived on time.

5. Unless the teacher had explained the homework, I wouldn't have done it. => If the teacher hadn't explained the homework, I wouldn't have done it.

6. If they had waited for another 10 minutes, they would have seen the pop star.( câu này không thể viết lại với unless vì unless= if not, và unless không đi với mệnh đề phủ định)

7. Unless the police had come earlier, they wouldn't have arrested the burglar. => If the police hadn't come earlier, they wouldn't have arrested the burglar. 

8. If you hadn't bought fresh green vegetable, your salad would have tasted better. => Unless you had bought fresh green vegetable, your salad wouldn't have tasted better.

9. If Alex hadn't asked me, I would have emailed the documents.  => Unless Alex had asked me, I wouldn't have emailed the documents. 

10. If he had spoken more slowy, Peggy would have understood him.( câu này không thể viết lại với unless vì unless= if not, và unless không đi với mệnh đề phủ định)

11. If he studies harder, he can pass an exam.
