The nomination file "Tug of War Rituals and Games" on the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity met 5 criteria:

1/ Rituals and tug-of-war games of the communities involved in the nomination dossier are a valuable social practice that creates equality; the diverse manifestations of practice in each member state; Some knowledge and skills are transmitted orally or through direct observation and participation, and some are taught in training centres, schools and museums.

2/ Through diverse practical expressions as well as adaptation to ecological conditions in each community, heritage nomination can shed light on the important role of intangible cultural heritage in development. sustainable development, as well as the value of constant regeneration based on human creativity.

The nomination itself stands as a collaborative project between the four member states, providing evidence of the value of this legacy for encouraging intercultural dialogue.

3/ Protection measures are clearly established through the establishment of plans, including specific activities that respond to the situation of each member state and each relevant community; Besides, there are measures to respond to unwanted situations such as commercialization of heritage.

4/ Nomination documents are prepared with the full participation of subject communities, groups, individuals, experts and relevant agencies; diverse according to the specific situation of each submitting country with evidence showing consensus and voluntariness for the nomination.

5/ Tug of war rituals and games have been inventoried in member countries: Korea (1969), Cambodia (2013), Philippines (2013) and Vietnam (2013).
