I can see the similarities in those pictures. Firstly, both pictures show people who are talking on the phone. Secondly, I could see the people in those pictures are very cheerful, maybe because they are talking about intriguing topics.

Although the two pictures have some common things, they still have differences. The first one is the difference in ways of communicating. The girl below is using her smartphone while the second is using a payphone which is not as convenient and cheap as a smartphone. Nowadays people tend to communicate through mobile phones because of their flexibility, we don't have to find telephone booths, use coins to make a call. 

Related to the question, personally, I prefer using a mobile phone just because in my country, there has been no telephone booth for a long time. Therefore, using a smartphone is more convenient and reasonable.
