         The sixth King Hung Vuong wanted to find a talented and virtuous man among twenty sons to succeed the throne, so he made a condition: it is not necessary to be the eldest son, whoever pleases the king during the festival of the first king will be crowned.
           Everyone is looking for "Son Hao Hai Vi", especially Lang Lieu, the 18th son of a poor family, only knows how to work in the fields or grow potatoes and rice, but potatoes and rice are too ordinary. Then that night, a god appeared and told Lang Lieu to make cakes from sticky rice. In the morning, he went to make two types of cakes from glutinous rice, pork and green beans. Making two kinds of round and square cakes to present to the king, the king saw that the cakes were delicious and showed a profound meaning, so he took these two types of cakes to worship Heaven, Earth and Tien Vuong, and named the round cake as "day cake". Square cake is Chung cake and passed the throne to Lang Lieu.
Since then, wrapping banh chung and banh chung to worship ancestors has become an indispensable custom in Vietnamese New Year's Day.

Banh Chung and Banh Giay is a fairy tale about the sixth Hung Vuong who is old and wants to pass the throne to his son who is both virtuous and talented, and he has twenty children. On the occasion of Tieu Vuong, King Hung ordered that whoever found delicious food and strange things that pleased the King and put them on the ancestral altar, he would pass the throne to him. The langurs were all eager to compete with each other to buy a really delicious and delicious ceremony to offer to their ancestors, in order to be handed the throne by King Hung. Only Lang Lieu, from a young age used to working in the fields, did not know what to do. One night in a dream, Lang Lieu was told by the god that he made a cake from glutinous rice, green beans and pork, and molded two types of cakes, the circle representing heaven and the square representing the earth. On the holiday, after the brothers had offered the gifts, they were not satisfied with the King, and it was Lang Lieu's turn, the king's father saw that the cake was delicious and meaningful, so he passed the throne to him. Since then, the wrapping of banh chung and banh day has become a custom of the Vietnamese people when Tet comes in the spring to show respect to the Ancestors.
