The Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam is one of the most famous places of Hanoi. It is located in the south of Thang Long Citadel. The Temple of Literature was built in 1070. In 1076, Ly Nhan Tong gave the Quoc Tu Giam stance beside Van Mieu. The Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam includes: Van Lake, Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam area and Giam garden. In the south, in front of Van Mieu is Van Lake or Minh Duong lake, popularly known as Giam Lake with an area of 12297 m², in the middle of the lake is Kim Chau mound. The surface of the lake is clear and surrounded by the shady trees. This makes visitors feel cool and gentle right from the moment they first step into the architecture. The sanctuary of Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam, is separated from the Giam garden and the outer space built by brick wall and divided into 5 different layers of space, each layer is limited by brick walls and has doors. With more than 700 years of operation, having trained thousands of talents for the country, Quoc Tu Giam is considered as the first university in Vietnam and also a symbol of the feudal election of this country. Today, Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam is the place to visit for domestic and foreign tourists, as well as a place of praise for excellent students and also a place to hold an annual poetry festival on the full moon day of January.
