Historical records say during the 8th lunar month of the Canh Tuat Year 1070, King Ly Thanh Tong built several important monuments. The Temple of Literature was among them. In 1076, King Ly Nhan Tong ordered the construction of The Imperial Academy regarded as Vietnam’s first university near the Temple of Literature. From 1067-1779, the Imperial Academy educated thousands of talented men for Vietnam. Among them are famous people such as the mathematician Luong The Vinh, the historian Ngo Sy Lien, the scientist Le Quy Don and the diplomat Ngo Thi Nham.
