       Buon Ma Thuot exile house is now located at 18 Tan Thuat, Tu An ward, Buon Ma Thuot city, about 1 km southeast of the city center, this historical relic is proof of the crimes of Buon Ma Thuot. French colonialists during the years from 1930 to 1945. The name of Buon Ma Thuot exile house was called after a name given by the French colonialists to this place as Pénitencer de Ban Me Thuot.

       In 1930-1931, the French colonial government built this exile house to serve as a place of exile and detention of revolutionaries and elite members of the Communist Party. This place mainly holds political prisoners sentenced to over 5 years in prison, classified as dangerous to the French colonialists. At that time, prisoners who received heavy sentences would be exiled to remote and isolated places, island areas, or even sent to French colonies at that time. And there are exile houses like this one built to hold and torture prisoners.

       Built on an area of ​​​​about 2 hectares of land, with surrounding walls built up to 4 m high, 40 cm thick, very solid. At the four corners of the exile house, there are sentries and guards 24 hours a day. The inner area has 6 rows of collective prisons built, a row of cells is also built in the southern area near the main gate, where prisoners are considered dangerous. In addition, there are quite areas such as warehouses, desks, workshops, kitchen areas. This type of design is often found in traditional French colonial prisons. With this layout will make the most of the area, as well as help closely manage the activities of prisoners.

       The image of the Buon Ma Thuot exile house when it was newly built was quite simple with the frame made of wood, the wall covered with mud mixed with straw, the inside was a bamboo core, the outermost part was plastered with a thin layer of cement. thatched roof. However, after a period of operation, the number of prisoners transferred there increased day by day. Therefore, this exile house was rebuilt more solidly with brick walls and tiled roofs around the end of November 1931. Later, a prisoner's escape occurred, so this work was restored and returned to life. become more solid.

       After the resistance war against the French colonialists, the victory ended with the battle of Dien Bien Phu in 1954. The US military built a wall to separate the exile house, one side will be used as a military warehouse, the other part will be a correctional area, two new gates on the west side will also be opened.
