In a small village to the north, there is a house on stilts. In the house, a Tay family is living together: grandparents named Dinh and Pu, parents named Lai and Pha, and three children named Vang, Pao, and Phong. Every day, grandparents stay at home to take care of the house. Mr. Lai and Ms. Pha work in the fields. They grow rice and other crops. Mrs. Pha goes to the market twice a week to buy food for her family. Mr. Lai sometimes hunts or collects wood in the forest. Pao and Phong go to the primary school in the village, while Vang attends a boarding school in a town about 15km away. He comes home for the weekend. The family lives simply and they like their way of life. Of course there are some difficulties. But they say they live happier here in their stilt house than in a modern apartment in the city.
