I’m planning to go to Mars in a few months. I’m going there to work on the first human settlement on Mars and I’ll be there for a year. This is a great opportunity for me, but also a huge challenge as I will be living in an environment that is very different from this one. A planet with no vegetation and very little water, where temperatures may reach -67 C during the night and up to 20 C during the day.
Once I get there I will be living in a dome with 5 other people, which is not a lot of space and we won’t have much privacy either. We don't have too many options for entertainment and will spend most of our time working outside of the dome or doing maintenance of the equipment inside.
As you can imagine, food will play an important role in my life there and cooking will be one of my main activities of the day. It may seem like it's not such an important thing but it really is. Food gives you energy and keeps you healthy so it's crucial that you eat enough and well balanced meals every day. You also need variety because without it your food intake becomes boring and that has consequences on your mood and your performance at work.
