I am of the view that lying is always wrong and so I completely disagree with the idea that telling a lie is sometimes necessary.
First, there are situations where we should never tell a lie. For example, lies in court can be very destructive and may result in innocent people being punished for crimes they did not commit. A lie in this situation can bring shame on the judicial system and cause irreparable harm to society. Furthermore, lies told by parents to their children will often result in them losing trust in their parents later in life when they discover the truth.
Second, lying is a short term solution to a problem. The negative repercussions of lying can often be felt years after the initial lie was told. Therefore it is better to face up to problems and deal with them honestly rather than try and escape from them through lying.
In conclusion, there are many situations where people should tell the truth without fail. In my opinion, telling a lie is never acceptable regardless of the reason for doing so.
