I am the oldest of four siblings, and when I was growing up, we would spend our summers in the mountains at a small cabin that belonged to my parents. There were eight of us all together: my four brothers and sisters, my two cousins (sisters who are about ten years younger than me), and me. We would spend our days swimming in the lake, playing ping-pong, and playing hide-and-seek.
Our favorite thing to do, however, was go berry picking. We would begin by finding a perfect spot with lots of good berries. Then we would grab our bowls and start picking. Sometimes it would be strawberries or raspberries or blackberries; it just depended on the season. Usually we would eat a few berries while we were picking them, but our main goal was to fill up our bowl completely so that we could make something with them when we got home.
Afterwards, each one of us took our bowl back to the cabin where my mom made a delicious pie with all of our findings. It was always fun to see which type of pie she made each day: strawberry rhubarb; raspberry; mixed berry; blackberry, the possibilities were endless!
