Vietnam has four seasons: spring, summer, autumn and winter. The weather is diverse, so the fruits on the S-shaped strip of land are also very rich. In that season, each region has a typical fruit. In which, the mango tree is the most familiar tree to everyone.
In my garden, I grow a lot of trees, but I am especially impressed with the mango tree in the corner of the garden. According to his grandfather, on the day he retired, he brought mango trees from the hatchery to the garden. More than 20 years so far. This is a southern mango variety, so the fruit is very large and has a very fragrant taste when eaten.
In summer, from afar, the mango tree looks like a giant green flame in the hot sunny sky. The tree is about 10 meters tall, shading a corner of the garden. Plant roots penetrate deep into the ground to absorb nutrients. There are still a few perennial roots, as big as pythons, sprouting up to the ground. It is the ideal place for the little ones to cool off and chat. The trunk of the tree wears a rough dark green shirt, but inside is a whole stream of sap to feed the tree. Branches splayed out in all directions to catch the sunlight. The leaves are dark green, elongated, growing in clusters. Summer is also the season of tree leaves, where the branches grow many young leaves. The young green leaves are tender, still soft and weak in the harsh weather, so sometimes they droop. In the evening, when the air is cooler, the trees are green again.
In early summer, the tree begins to produce flower clusters. Mango flowers are not as big as other trees but just as tiny as longan flowers. Each yellow flower shines in the sun. With each slight breeze, a few petals are tilted and left the branch. It's only been a few days, but from those flowers have grown into tiny clusters of fruit. At first the fruit was only as big as the tip of a thumb, like tiny children climbing everywhere. About a month later, the fruit has grown significantly. Each fruit must be as big as two shriveled adult hands, attractive dark green color. Mangoes begin to turn from green to yellow, signaling the cut-off date. My whole family enjoys ripe mangoes, the taste is very fragrant, and when eaten, it is very crispy. Everyone loves to enjoy this mango.
Behind my garden, there is a very large acacia mango tree. It was planted by my father from a friend's house more than five years ago. At that time, it was still a tiny branch, but now it is big and mature.
The mango tree is very tall, even over the fence. The trunk is straight, as big as a communal pillar. The bark on the body is gray-brown, sometimes with white spots like mold. From the trunk emanated large branches, as big as a wrist. Then from there, grow many more smaller branches. They continue to proliferate, mother branches give birth to young branches, creating a large, luxuriant tree canopy. Mango leaves are elongated, about the size of a hand, only about three fingers wide. Mango leaves are thin, green, young leaves are burgundy. My family's acacia mango tree is green all year round, always luxuriant, whether it's cold in winter or when the summer sun is on fire.
Mango flowers are tiny, often clustered in small bunches, the small bunches form larger clusters. At first, mango flowers are young green, then gradually turn yellow, that's when it has begun to bear fruit. When the petals call each other off from the branch, it means that the young mango fruit has been born. Acacia mangoes are rounder and shorter than carved mangoes. The meat is thick and sweet. When ripe, it has a bright yellow color, almost the size of a hand.
I love acacia mango tree very much. Every day when I come home from school, I often spend time watering the plants. Hope the tree will always be green and healthy.
