Tet is a national and family festival. It is an occasion for every Vietnamese to have a good time while thinking about the last year and the next year. At Tet, spring fairs are organized, streets and public buildings are brightly decorated and almost all shops are crowded with people shopping for Tet. At home, every is tidied, special food is cooked,offerings of food, fresh water, flowers and betel are made on the family altar with burning joss- sticks scenting the air. First-footing is made when the lucky visitor comes and children are given lucky money wrapped in a red tiny envelope. Tet is also a time for peace and love. During Tet, children often behave well and friends, relatives and neighbors give each other best wishes for the new year.

Almost everyone in the house will have a traditional custom. My house also has and I think everyone's customs will be similar to mine, that is, every 30 New Year's Eve my house is cleaned. Old things will be bought new to replace. And most especially, this traditional package of banh chung, banh tet, everyone must have. As soon as the cake is wrapped, we will sit together, we even stay up until night to steam the cake. Because of wrapping the cake, we sat together again and became closer. I really like this custom.

Hầu hết nhà ai cũng sẽ có một phong tục truyền thống. Nhà tôi cũng có và tôi nghĩ chắc phong tục của mọi người sẽ giống nhà tôi, đó chính là cứ gần 30 tết nhà tôi lại quét dọn sạch sẽ. Những đồ nào cũ thì sẽ mua cái mới để thay. Và đặc biệt nhất là gói bánh chưng, bánh tét truyền thống này thì nhà ai cũng phải có rồi. Cứ đến khi gói bánh chúng tôi sẽ ngồi cùng nhau, chúng tôi còn thức tới tối để hấp bánh nữa ấy chứ. Chính vì gói bánh nên chúng tôi lại ngồi cùng nhau và trở nên thân thiết hơn. Tôi thật sự thích phong tục này.
