Sharks need protection in my opinion. Every year, more than 400 sharks are hunted. But sharks don't have as many as goldfish, in each sea they only have 5-10. One is some of the top predators - this means that they have no natural predators and are at the top of the food chain. These species keep other species under control, and their elimination can have a powerful impact on an ecosystem. Killing of a apex predator can lead to an increase in smaller predators, causing an overall decline in the prey population. It used to be thought that destructive shark populations could lead to an increase in commercially valuable fish species, but this probably wouldn't be the case.

Sharks can keep fish stocks healthy. They may eat weak, unhealthy fish, which reduces the chance that the disease can be spread through fish populations.
