We move quickly, a fog falls and then settles on the asphalt surface and reflects back. The October mornings were really quiet, the silence punctuated by constant questions from my 5-year-old boy, who was riding a bicycle that was towed by my bike. Who is Martin Luther King? Is he really a king? When will we have lunch?
Washington DC is a fun destination for many families. That visit was a few miles on foot, but fortunately, for biking families, Washington D.C. is a great place to tour Washington DC by bike while experiencing "American" history. Our family recently took a bike tour of Washington DC to visit the city for a few days. While there, we discovered that cycling D.C. really suitable compared to other modes of transport. We were able to quickly tick all the tourist attractions while doing what we wanted to do. Bike tours
Visiting Washington DC by bike
Like many tourists, we were outside the city and wanted to visit. We were hoping to be able to take the metro, but found out that bicycles are only allowed on some trains and only 2 are allowed at a time. We were a little nervous about the move, but it turned out well – thanks to our bikes.
We parked the car at the far end of East Potomac Park and walked a few miles to the National Mall. My 5-year-old had the pleasure of watching kayakers navigate the Potomac, spot planes taking off and landing at Reagen International Airport, and even spot an empty playground .
Once at the National Mall, we were able to quickly ride the train from the FDR Memorial to the JFK Monument to the Lincoln Memorial and beyond. While you are not allowed to ride your bike IN the memorial. There were plenty of places to lock our bikes while we were busy sightseeing.
If your child enjoys doing National Park Boundaries (highly recommended), they will get to visit many of the memorials to complete their pamphlet. I've heard from other parents that it can take a few days to complete, however, we were able to easily earn our badge in a day.
In addition to using our bicycles for transportation, cycling is a fun activity. We cycled along the reflecting pool, ate a lunch under the Cherry Blossom tree and walked through a long rain
