Father's Day is a celebration of paternity, family engagement, and the influence of fathers in society. Early period
A customary day celebrating fatherhood in European Catholicism is known to start from at least 1508. It is usually celebrated on March 19, the feast of Saint Joseph, who is called Nutritor Domini ( "He who nourishes God") in Catholicism and the father of Jesus' assumption in the Southern European tradition. This celebration was brought to the Americas by the Spaniards and the Portuguese. In 1909, Sonora Smart Dodd, who lived in Spokane, Washington, USA, thought after attending Mother's Day at the Church: '"Why not have a holiday similar to Mother's Day to remember the people Father like my father ?.
When Dodd was 13 years old, the mother unfortunately died while giving birth, leaving six children, after her father, William Smart, became a widow and was determined not to remarry. He replaced his wife with six children (including an infant) on a rural farm in eastern Washington, USA. In 1909, Mr. Smart died. After Thanksgiving on Mother's Day, Mrs. Dude shared with Reimas church pastor about her father's love and efforts in parenting, she hoped to have a special day to pay homage with his father, And in memory of the great father of the whole world and made a proposal to establish Father's Day, hoping that there will be a holiday in the world to commemorate his gratitude to his father.
After hearing the story of Mrs. Dodd, Pastor Reimas was deeply moved by the spirit of Mr. Smart and supported her efforts to promote the establishment of Father's Day. In the spring of 1910, she started Father's Day, then received the support of various church organizations. She also wrote to express her thoughts and suggestions to the mayor and state government. With the efforts of Mrs. Dodd, Mayor Spokane and Governor of Washington agreed to recognize, and Washington held the world's first Father's Day party on June 19, 1910.
In 1924, US President Calvin Coolidge supported Father's Day as a national holiday.
In 1966, US President Lyndon B. Johnson announced that Mr. Smart's birthday month would be June of that year as Father's Day in the United States.
In 1972, US President Nixon officially signed the document, marking the third Sunday in June each year as Father's Day in the United States and from then on becoming the permanent national anniversary of the United States.
The Republic of China (1912–1949) [
