Three most important skills you will need to learn in order to be successful at living independently the first time you are on your own are discussed below.

The first skill is the ability to cope with loneliness. Teenagers who know how to recognize loneliness as the temporary feeling it is, use their support system and work through their loneliness do just fine.

The second skill is the ability to procure and cook food. You know they know how to order at a fast-food restaurant, but they need to know how to shop at a grocery store, making smart buying decisions, and then how to make dinner when they get home.

The last one is general housekeeping skills. Laundry, cleaning their room, loading/unloading the dishwasher, taking out the trash — few teenagers enjoy these tasks, but they need to know how to do them (and get used to doing them) before they are out on their own. It’s part of being independent and responsible.

In order to be independent, there are so many things you have to know, so many skills you need. However, there are 3 of them that are the most important in my opinion: Communication, Organisation and Researching.

Without communication, you won't be able to support yourself in most situation. If you can't communicate well with people, isolating yourself from others will surely give you no chance to thrive, to be efficient and to gain experience.

With good organisation skill, you know how to prioritize your work, your study and your time. Knowing which to do first, which is more important, you will surely be able manage yourself as well as your whole life without any dependency.

Last but not least, being able to research yourself is good enough in most situation. Not knowing how to cook, you can read or watch tutorial. Not knowing how to workout, the internet can be your teacher without anybody else's help.
