Muong people, also known as Mol, Moan, Mual, are people living in the midland and mountainous areas of Northern Vietnam. The Muong people are recognized as a member of the community of 54 ethnic groups in Vietnam. The Muong people speak the Muong language, the language belonging to the Vietnamese - Muong group in the Vietnamese branch of the Mon-Khmer language family of the South Asian language family. Middle East is most concentrated in Hoa Binh Province and the mountainous districts of Thanh Hoa Province

Muong people are most concentrated in Hoa Binh province and mountainous districts of Thanh Hoa province. The population in Vietnam according to the 2009 Census results is 1,268,963 people [1].

The Muong people have a very close relationship with the Kinh people. Linguists suggest that the Muong and the Kinh have a common origin as the ancient Vietnamese-Muong people. During the thousand years under the North, the part of the people living in the mountains was less Hanized, preserving the ancient way of life to date is the Muong. Parts in the midlands and plains mixed with northern people on culture, language and anthropology into the Kinh.
